Georgia took center stage in an interesting play on the third day of the Pre-Olympic Basketball Tournament in Riga (Latvia). And Tornike Shengelia’s team tried an autobasket in the last play against the Philippines, but missed!!

The Europeans needed to beat the Philippines by 19 points or more to avoid elimination and advance to this Saturday’s semifinals. Leading by just two points (94-96) with just two seconds left, the Philippines shot free throws. After making the first, Chris Newsome missed the second, and the rebound fell into Georgia center Goga Bitadze’s hands. The only way to win by more than 19 points was to go into overtime and try to make it, so Bitadze tried a two-handed shot. But the ball bounced off the hoop, their joy was not moving on the scoreboard, and the game ended with a 94-96 Georgia victory.
