Five-time NBA champion Kobe Bryant’s locker from the Los Angeles Lakers’ locker room at Staples Center is up for auction at Sotheby’s.
The auction house’s website lists the lot at between $1 million and $1.5 million. As of July 23, one buyer’s bid was $700,000.
It is noted that Bryant used this locker at the Staples Center from 2004 until his retirement in 2016. The cabinet was thrown out during the renovation of the Staples Center in 2018, but a person involved in the project prudently saved it. The lot was later purchased by a private American collector and has been in his collection since then.
Bidding for the locker will continue until August 22. Part of the proceeds from the sale of the lot will be donated to the Lakers Youth Foundation.
Bryant died in January 2020 when his personal helicopter crashed in a Los Angeles suburb. His 13-year-old daughter Gianna and seven others were also on board; no one survived.
