The Executive Committee of the Russian Basketball Federation (RBF) has extended the term of Zoran Lukic as head coach of the Russian men’s national team.
The RBF Coaching Council recommended extending the terms of office of Lukich and Aleksandr Kovalev as head coaches of the men’s and women’s national teams.
— Candidates for the positions of head coaches of the Russian men’s and women’s national teams have been approved. Zoran Lukic’s candidacy was approved for four years, and Aleksandr Kovalev’s until the end of 2025, — the statement on the RBF website says.
Earlier, Sergei Elevich, a member of the RBF coaching council, told Match TV that Lukic had been approved as the head coach of the Russian national team for the next Olympic cycle.
Serbian specialist Lukic took charge of the Russian national team in October 2021. The 52-year-old Lukic’s contract with the Russian Basketball Federation was valid until September. Until May 2024, he combined his post in the national team with work at the Paris Nizhny Novgorod club. Kovalev has been coaching the Russian women’s team since 2019.
