“A slap in the face of our basketball and Perm fans” – Eremin on the scandal at the Friendship Cup

The head of the coaching council of the Russian Basketball Federation (RBF) Stanislav Eremin told Match TV that the situation with the Colombian team’s match at the Friendship Cup was a slap in the face of Russian basketball.

Earlier, the Colombian Basketball Federation (FCB) reported that it did not send a national team to participate in the Friendship Cup, which is being held in Perm. In the opening match of the tournament, the Colombian team suffered a crushing defeat to Parma with a score of 53:155.

On Thursday, the Russian Basketball Federation announced that it was preparing changes to the schedule of Fonbet Friendship Cup matches.

— In the mid-90s, we at CSKA were looking for opponents for training tournaments, and we were often deceived. We agreed on one thing, but it turned out differently.

In this situation, it is an outrage and a disgrace. I don’t know who invited the teams and organized the competitions, usually the federation does this. For me, this is just a slap in the face of our basketball and Perm fans. Such situations need to be checked, – Eremin told Match TV.

At the moment, the tournament schedule on the official website of the Russian Basketball Federation for Thursday includes two games: at 14:00 (Moscow time) the teams of Colombia and Venezuela are scheduled to play, and at 17:00 (Moscow time) the meeting of the Russian team and Parma is scheduled.

Fonbet Friendship Cup runs from August 21 to 25.

Jokic may lose his chance to compete for NBA MVP award

Denver Nuggets announced Nikola Jokic He will miss at least four weeks due to left knee hyperextension.

The Serb is expected to miss all 18 matches in January and his maximum appearances this season could be limited to 64 matches. So Jokic will lose the opportunity to compete for the NBA’s main prizes – MVP and inclusion in the All-NBA, as this requires playing at least 65 games in the regular season.

Theoretically, he could return for the January 31 game against the Brooklyn Nets, which would give Nikola the opportunity to play 65 games before the end of the season, but that scenario is unlikely.

Jokic was injured in the last seconds of the first half of the match against Miami Heat (123:147) and did not return to the field after a long break. Before his injury, he managed to score 21 points, 8 assists and 5 rebounds in just 19 minutes.

Jokic averaged 29.9 points, 12.4 rebounds and 11.1 assists per game this season.
