The Colombian national team sent neither the second nor the first national team to the Friendship Cup in Russia and gave initial consent to participate in the competition signed by the president of the Colombian Basketball Federation (FCB). This follows from a letter that was obtained by Match TV.
Earlier, FCB announced that it did not send a national team to participate in the Fonbet Friendship Cup.
FCB initially notified the Russian side of its team’s participation in the Friendship Cup in Perm in an official letter signed by the organization’s president. No letters from Colombia refusing to participate in the tournament were received by the Russian side. However, the Latin American country did not send the first or even the second composition of the national team.
The Friendship Cup is held from August 21 to 25. In the opening match of the tournament, the Colombian team suffered a crushing defeat to Parma with a score of 53:155.
The Russian and Venezuelan national teams are also taking part in the tournament. The teams will first play each other in a round robin format. The final and the match for third place will take place on Sunday, August 25.
