The Spanish women’s 3×3 basketball team won the European Cup in Vienna on Sunday, defeating France 19-11 in a final that was dominant from start to finish.
Just 20 days after winning the silver medal at the Paris Olympics, Gracia Alonso de Armiño, Juana Camilião, Vega Jimeno and Sandra Higuerabide were recognised as European champions after standing out from the very first day and going undefeated in the tournament.
This Sunday, Spain gave their rivals no choice, taking double the points (5/9) and playing their best game in a competition in which they have already had a good record so far.
The national team knew that the final against France would not be an easy match, which was a big motivation for them to take to the court ready to win, and the best proof of this was the first two minutes of the match, when Anna Jounieh’s women’s team was able to withstand the first exchange of blows at each basket, and the solid defense where Juana Camilión started to make the difference.
