Egor is already being compared to the main stars of the National Basketball Association.

It’s been a while since there’s been an NBA-level player in Russian basketball, but everything could change in the near future. Russian point guard Yegor Demin, who recently moved overseas, made a real splash in his first match and delighted experts and scouts.

And even managed to break the record!

“Now all the concentration is on this season”

Demin already stood out from his peers at a young age. It is not surprising that Egor wanted to host the Spanish giants Real Madrid. As part of the Royal Club, the player twice became the champion of the youth Euroleague, where he played leading roles. The Russian managed to make his debut for the main team, and already at the age of 17.

The Spaniards would probably like to keep the promising point guard, but he decided to move to the USA in order to be visible to American scouts. He chose college basketball to develop his career. Many educational institutions wanted to see the basketball player in their ranks, but Demin chose Brigham Young University (BYU).

— First of all, it helps in development and preparation for the next stage. But I don’t want to talk about the draft and the NBA yet – the season hasn’t started yet, and it’s too early to make predictions. Now all the concentration is on this season,” Demin said in an interview with “Championship”.

“Fantastic performance”

Egor feels comfortable in the USA. He quickly joined the new team, starting training in the summer. And the fruits of the preparation became visible immediately. The NCAA regular season started just fine for him.

In the first game against the University of Central Arkansas, the Russian point guard was trusted to spend 31 minutes on the court. During this time, he scored 18 points and made 11 assists. In the entire history of the Big 12 division, in which BYU plays, only once has a player played such a cool debut game. In 2017, future All-Star Trae Young scored 10+ points and 10+ rebounds in his first game. Also, one game was enough for Demin to update the university record for assists among debutants.

— To be honest, I didn’t try to think about anything before the game. I was just trying to prepare like I do before every match. I just went out onto the court and enjoyed myself,” Demin said after the game.

Even before his NCAA debut, Egor was considered by many scouts to be one of the candidates for the NBA draft next season, and such a shock debut significantly increased his chances. The American press has already begun to praise the player.

— If Demin continues to play in the same spirit, he will qualify for a place in the top 7 of the NBA draft. Fantastic performance,” wrote American journalist for The Athletic Tony Jones on social media.

It’s too early to draw conclusions based on one game, but Demin definitely attracted the attention of scouts from many NBA clubs, who will now closely monitor him.
