The NBA leadership plans to expand the league and discuss this issue this summer, Basket News reports.

According to the commissioner of the NBA Adam Silver, the issue of increasing the number of clubs will be discussed in July at a meeting of the Council of Managers in Las Vegas. At the same time, further expansion in the United States causes skepticism from the League leadership, since the new American club may not gain interest from the television auditor. But Mexico City is considered – the capital of Mexico.

– If we add another American city, then it is not quite clear what advantages we will get from this. Perhaps over time we will be able to achieve more in Canada and Mexico City, ”Basket News quotes the words of Silver.

The last time the NBA expanded in 2004, when the Charlotte Bobkats team (now Hornets) entered the league. At the moment, there are 30 teams in the tournament, of which only one not from the USA – the representative of Canada Toronto Raptors.

Earlier it was reported that the NBA will study the prospects of the Canadian Vancouver and Montreal to base new clubs, and can also create a European league in the next two to three years.
