“Purasovich had proposals in the Euroleague every year, but he chose UNICS” – Leonov

The Minister of Sports of Tatarstan Vladimir Leonov on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (PMEF) told Match TV that the head coach of UNICS Velimir Purasovich had received proposals from the Euroleagogue every year, but the specialist decided to stay in Kazan.

On Monday, UNICS announced the extension of the contract with Purasovich. A new agreement with a 60 -year specialist was concluded according to the 1+1 scheme.

– How do you feel about the extension of Purasovich’s contract?

– I am in excellent relations with Velimir. I personally know the coach, the team. This is one of the best league coaches, it is very open and talented. He did a lot for UNICS, won bronze. We are always in tops, much depends on the leadership of the club. But the coaching staff is a decisive link. If you look at the season, there were many matches that the team turned over. Before the playoffs there were many discussions about acquisitions, especially for playing. But in the end, this player took everything to himself in the last match. I am very glad, this is a responsible coach and personality. He had proposals in the Euroleague every year, but he chose Kazan. He is very comfortable, he wants to set the most ambitious goals for the next season, ”Leonov said“ Match TV ”.

Under the leadership of the Croatian coach, UNICS for the first time became the champion of the Unified VTB League in 2023. He also led UNICS to bronze medals in 2022 and 2025.
