The Russian basketball player Daniil Kasatkin was arrested in France at the request of the United States due to suspicion of involvement in cybercrime, reports Le Monde with reference to the AFP agency.
It is noted that the 26 -year -old Kasatkin, who played for the Moscow MBA -MAI team, is suspected of participating in a hacker network engaged in extortion. The athlete does not admit their guilt. The basketball player was detained on July 21 at the Ruassi -Sharl de Goll airport, where he arrived with his bride. It is noted that the hacker network, in which, as stated, Kasatkin took part, allegedly in 2020–2022, took attacks of about 900 organizations, including two federal institutions of the United States.
Kasatkin from June 23 is in custody in antsonal. The lawyer of the basketball player said that Kasatkin is poorly versed in computers and cannot even install the applications. The laptop could be “hacked” or sold to the basketball player to act “undercover”.
Last season, Kasatkin played for the MBA -MAI in the Unified VTB league. On July 3, the basketball player left MBA -May.
