The Russian Basketball male team holds a series of friendly matches, which began with an early defeat – the outcome of the meeting decided to throw a throw in the penultimate second. But the answer was not long in coming – in the second match, the member of the World Cup was defeated.

The last major international tournament for the Russian Basketball male team was the 2019 World Cup. The team under the leadership of Sergei Bazarevich played without a number of leaders and could not go to the playoffs. Later, due to the transfer of tournaments due to the pandemic of coronavirus, and then because of the ban of Russian sports, it was not possible to take part in the world and European championships, but the national team continues to exist and holds friendly matches.

On Wednesday 30, in the Khimki basketball center, the Russian national team received a participant in the 2020 Olympics and the World Cup-2023-Iranian team. It is worth noting that this was the second match in a row – on the eve of the team of Zoran Lukich, the status of the favorite did not justify, losing 67:70. The most offensive was that the opponent pulled out the victory at the penultimate second of the match. Playing problems and not the best implementation did not fully reveal the potential of the team. But the possibility of revenge remained, and our basketball players were determined to use it.

The Russians confidently started and in the second minute led 5-0. But since this is not football and not even hockey, such an advantage at the beginning of the match did not guarantee anything at all. Nevertheless, the Lukich team increased momentum, soon the gap from the opponent approached the two -digit number (12: 3). The Iranians, however, were not discouraged, taking advantage of the mistakes of our team, the opponent reduced the lag to one accurate throw from behind the arc, but for the first break, Russian basketball players went with a comfortable advantage in the score-24:15.

Reboot for the national team

The Russians were not going to dwell on this – the exact hits of Ilya Frolov, Vsevolod Ishchenko, Anton Kvitkovsky, Maxim Barashkov, Timofei Gerasimov allowed our team a novel 13: 0 at a specific segment and 37:15 in the match. True, the Iranians quickly came to their senses and answered with their jerk 12: 1. For a big break, the Lukich team left, leaving 11 points (38:27), but the rebooting of the national team was definitely required, otherwise the advantage of the next several attacks painted completely evaporated.

The Iranians, however, tried: they started the chase with three exact penalties, but even a hint of some fracture in the confrontation did not follow. The Russians continued to hold the advantage of more than two dozen points, and brought the matter to a confident victory – 79:58. Revenge was a success, our basketball players proved that even in the experimental composition they can easily deal with the participant in the World Cup. By the way, with another participant in the World-2023 championship, the Egyptian team, the Lukich team will have to play on the road in early August.
