NBA player suspected of betting on matches evicted from apartment
American basketball player Malik Beasley, who is under investigation in a federal gambling case, was evicted from his apartment in an apartment building in Detroit, ESPN reports.
Beasley’s landlord has sued him twice this year in Michigan District Court for failure to pay rent, records show, totaling $21,505. The first case was dismissed in March, and in the second case the court issued an eviction order and ordered Beasley to pay $7,355.
The athlete’s social media posts in recent weeks indicate he has been traveling in Europe.
Beasley, 28, is the third NBA player to be investigated for gambling charges in the last 18 months.
It was previously reported that the District Attorney’s Office is investigating Beasley, who is suspected of betting on NBA matches during the 2023/24 season when he played for Milwaukee. This prevented Detroit from signing a new contract with the player. Beasley is currently a free agent in the NBA.
Beasley is also being sued by his former marketing agency, which claims he “struggling” to pay back a $650,000 advance he received earlier this year. The Detroit News reported in July that Beasley also has debts to a celebrity hairdresser, a dentist and a company that provides loans to professional athletes.
During his nine-year NBA career, the basketball player earned almost $60 million.
