The Russian youth team was proposed to be included in the Basketball Super League
The Russian youth basketball team can become part of the Super League, said the President of the Russian Basketball Federation (RFB) Andrei Kirilenko.
“Due to the situation, we must look forward. That is why the national team plays with a fairly young squad.
There is no point in calling up guys who have already proven themselves now, while there are no matches with official status. We all know how Kurbanov, Antonov and others play. Our task is to assemble a team with an eye forward to what comes next.
We would like our youth team, which consists of promising players aged 18–23, to play in one of the championships. Not in the VTB United League, apparently, but in the Super League, for example. If the Ministry of Sports supports our project, it would be cool,” Kirilenko said at the Basketball Development Council during the plenary session “Basketball 2030: from regional projects to national victories,” which takes place in Perm.
Since 2022, Russians have been suspended from international competitions in team sports due to the situation in Ukraine.
