The NBA has launched an investigation into the case of Malik Beasley, suspected of illegal betting.
NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said the league is conducting its own investigation into the case of basketball player Malik Beasley.
Earlier it became known that the New York District Attorney’s Office had launched a federal investigation, suspecting Beasley of manipulating sports results as part of an illegal betting game. It was reported that the basketball player is voluntarily cooperating with the investigation.
“Our investigation is ongoing, and that’s all I can say.” It is my understanding that the federal investigation into Malik is also ongoing. We will consider everything that is presented to us regarding his case,” ESPN quotes Silver.
According to ESPN, suspicions fell on Beasley after an unnamed American bookmaker noticed unusual interest in betting on his personal statistics. However, charges were not brought until now, and in August the basketball player’s lawyer, Steve Haney, said that Malik was no longer a defendant in the case.
The suspicions date back to the 2023-24 season, when Beasley, 28, played for the Milwaukee Bucks. He later moved to the Detroit Pistons. Beasley and the Pistons were in talks to sign a new three-year, $42 million contract, but negotiations are now on hold.
Beasley averaged 16.3 points last season while appearing in all 82 regular-season games.
