Durant extended his contract with Houston for two years and $90 million, surpassing James in career salary
Two-time NBA champion forward Kevin Durant has extended his contract with the Houston Rockets, ESPN reports, citing the basketball player’s business partner Rich Kleiman.
Durant agreed to a two-year extension with a player option for the 2027-28 season for $90 million. The four-time Olympian joined Houston from the Phoenix Suns in a seven-team trade over the summer.
“Durant was eligible for a maximum two-year contract extension of $120 million, but by choosing the Rockets, he knew he would be sacrificing money—about $30 million in this case—to allow the two sides to work together long-term and give the franchise flexibility in how they build their team,” Kleiman said.
Thus, the 37-year-old Durant became the highest paid player in NBA history in terms of salary for his entire career, including future payments – 598.2 million. By this indicator, he was ahead of LeBron James (583.9).
Durant is a two-time NBA champion with the Golden State Warriors, the NBA’s Most Valuable Player in the 2013-14 season, and twice won the Finals Playoff MVP award. The American also played for the Seattle SuperSonics, Oklahoma City Thunder and Brooklyn Nets.
