Eight-time Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi named the best, in his opinion, athletes in football and other sports.
“Of course, for us Argentines, Diego Maradona has always been the greatest idol and the person we admired most for everything he represented. Even though I was small and didn’t see him in person very often, Diego surpassed everything and everyone.
In other sports, it was the same with Michael Jordan. And in tennis – Roger Federer, Rafa Nadal, Novak Djokovic – these three have made the competition much more intense than before.
I’m sure I’ve forgotten many athletes, but to name a few more, I would mention LeBron James and Stephen Curry – players who, in their own way, gave a lot to their sport,” Mundo Deportivo quoted Messi as saying, citing an interview with NBC.
The 38-year-old Argentine last week extended his contract with MLS club Inter Miami until 2028.
Messi is the 2022 World Champion with the Argentina national team, the 2008 Olympic champion, 10-time champion of Spain, two-time champion of France and 4-time winner of the Champions League.
