Memphis Grizzlies suspend point guard Morant for one NBA game for inappropriate response to reporters
NBA Memphis Grizzlies point guard Ja Morant will miss one regular season game for inappropriate behavior and damaging the club’s reputation, ESPN reports.
Memphis management punished Morant after he advised reporters to “ask the coaching staff” all the questions about his performance in recent matches. The conversation with reporters took place on Friday after a home defeat to the Los Angeles Lakers (112:117).
According to the source, the club considered such behavior in front of the coaches and most of the team to be inappropriate. In addition, the management considered it necessary to support head coach Tuomas Iisalo. The 43-year-old Finn is spending his first season in the NBA at the helm of the team.
Last season, Morant was fined $75,000 by the NBA for making a handgun gesture to mark Ja’s 3-point shots. The league called the gesture inappropriate and noted that it could be interpreted negatively.
