NBA champion Tony Allen arrested on drug charges
Former Boston Celtics and Memphis Grizzlies basketball player Tony Allen was arrested for drug possession, the Associated Press reports, citing a report from the Poinsett County Sheriff’s Office, Arkansas (USA).
The incident occurred on Wednesday. The car in which the ex-basketball player was located was stopped approximately 80 km northwest of Memphis. Allen was found to be in possession of marijuana. When officers searched the vehicle, they found a cigarette box containing a powdery substance that was later identified as cocaine.
“During contact, the deputy detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from the interior of the vehicle, prompting him to demand both men (the driver and Allen) exit the vehicle,” the report states.
Allen is 43 years old and a 2008 NBA champion with Boston. In total, he played 820 matches in the regular season and 112 games in the playoffs. Allen was named to the NBA All-Defensive Team six times.
