Miami coach on burning down house: “Things in the house can be replaced. It is important that the family is safe.”
Miami coach Erik Spoelstra said he is not worried about the things lost during the fire in his house.
Spoelstra’s home was destroyed by a fire that broke out Thursday morning. His children, Santiago, Dante and Ruby, were at their mother’s home at the time, and no one was injured.
– Things in the house… these things can be replaced. And if they can’t be replaced, what does it matter? That’s what really matters. Family, those closest to us, our dog is also safe, thank God. We’re just grateful. We are grateful that everyone is safe.
I want to express my gratitude to the rescuers, police and firefighters. They were amazing. They couldn’t save our house, but obviously we saw how the fire could have spread throughout the entire area,” ESPN quoted the coach as saying.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Spoelstra said the Heat offered him a few days off if he needed to deal with personal issues, but he declined.
