“I can’t wait to get back on the court” – Zenit basketball player Poythress
Zenit basketball center Alex Poythress told Match TV that he wants to return to the St. Petersburg club as soon as possible after undergoing surgery.
In October, Zenit announced that Poythress would miss the rest of the 2025/26 season due to a torn anterior cruciate ligament. The 32-year-old athlete underwent surgery and will undergo rehabilitation in the USA, after which he will return to St. Petersburg.
— I can report that the operation was successful. I can’t wait to return to the site as part of Zenit,” Poythress told Match TV.
Zenit signed a new contract with Poythress in the summer until the end of the 2025/26 season with the possibility of a one-year extension.
In the current VTB United League, Poythress played 7 matches, in which he averaged 14.3 points, 7 rebounds, 0.9 assists, 0.7 blocked shots and 0.4 steals.
