The NBA’s Los Angeles Clippers have decided to terminate the contract with guard Chris Paul.

Earlier it became known that the 40-year-old basketball player would retire after the end of the season.

— We are parting ways with Chris Paul, he will no longer be on the team. We will work with him on the next stage of his career.

Chris is a legendary Clippers player whose career was truly historic.

We want to make one thing clear: no one blames Chris for our failures. We take responsibility for the current situation. There are many reasons why we are facing difficulties. “We are grateful to Chris for the contribution he made to the development of the franchise,” says a statement on the club’s website.

The basketball player himself has already reacted to this news on the social network.

“I just found out that I was sent home,” Paul wrote.

The Clippers are tied for second-to-last place in the West (5-16) with Sacramento.

Paul is in his 21st season in the NBA. He previously played for the New Orleans Hornets, Houston Rockets, Oklahoma City Thunder, Phoenix Suns, Golden State Warriors and San Antonio Spurs. Paul is a 12-time All-Star, NBA Rookie of the Year (2006), and a two-time Olympic champion on Team USA.

Paul is one of only two players in league history to reach 20,000 points and 10,000 assists.
