FIBA said it could take emergency measures to ensure the participation of Russian basketball players in the 2028 Olympics
The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) announced on its website that it would be ready to take emergency measures to ensure the participation of the Russian and Belarus national teams in the 2028 Olympic Games.
Earlier it became known that FIBA extended the suspension of national teams until at least mid-February 2026.
“The Central Council has confirmed that, when the situation allows, FIBA will be ready to take emergency measures to ensure the participation of players from both federations in the 2028 Olympic Games, given the impossibility of participation in the major FIBA tournaments of 2026 and 2027, where qualifying is already underway,” the press release says.
In 2022, FIBA suspended the national teams of Russia and Belarus from participating in competitions under the auspices of the organization.
The 2028 Summer Olympics will be held in Los Angeles (USA).
