Miami basketball player Rozier pleads not guilty to illegal betting charges
NBA Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier has pleaded not guilty in Brooklyn federal court to charges of illegal betting and gambling, ESPN reports.
The 31-year-old point guard is accused of fraud. Prosecutors say Rozier conspired with friends to help them win bets on his performance in 2023 while he was playing for the Charlotte Hornets.
Rozier was arrested in October but later released on $3 million bail secured by his Florida home and other valuable property. Until the end of the proceedings, he is prohibited from gambling, possessing firearms and having contact with victims, accomplices and witnesses in the case.
Rozier’s lawyer urged the court to consider the case expeditiously, citing the fact that the basketball player would still have to deal with NBA arbitration. The court rejected this request and scheduled the next hearing in the case for March 3.
