Kevin Durant decisive in Houston: triple that beats former team
On Monday, Kevin Durant hit a triple at almost the buzzer, giving the Houston Rockets a victory over his former team, the Phoenix Suns.
The Suns (21-15) were 0-10 (94-87 to 94-97) when the Rockets (22-11) went scoreless with two minutes left in the game.
With 5.1 seconds left on the scoreboard and the score reading 97-97, KD did his best to receive the ball and hit a triple against Royce O’Neal with 0.3 seconds left before the final horn sounded to give his team the win.
After the game, Durant said, “I’ve been booed here for years as a rival player, but it feels great to go out there and be loved by the fans. I love Houston, I love the Texans, and I’m so grateful to be able to represent the Rockets.”
Durant had 26 points and 10 rebounds for the Rockets, who were missing star center Alperen Sengun for the next few weeks with an ankle problem. Armen Thompson and Jabari Smith also starred in Houston’s victory, each scoring 17 points.
For the Suns, who had just won against Oklahoma City the night before, Devin Booker finished with 27 points, and O’Neal and Dillon Brooks each had 15 points.
