75-78: Valencia Baskett resists in Lugo and ends the first round with an unexpected victory
In a maximum pressure scenario, Anderson appeared with a crucial basket and after a local reaction, Our Fam supported his team in a decisive moment. Women’s Valencia Basket concluded the first round of LF Endesa with a hard-fought victory on the court of Duran Macinaria Encino Lugo in a head-to-head battle between the two teams that will take part in the next Copa de la Reina.
Rubén Burgos’ team built a big early advantage and withstood a final push from the locals to add their 11th win on this course and reach the halfway point of the season in third place with 11 wins and four losses.
It was a game that required decisiveness until the last second. Despite dominating most of the game and leading by 20 points, Valencia Basketball struggled in the final minutes as Encino closed the gap to just three points (73-76) with 26 seconds left. In that context, the leadership of Anderson and Alexander was decisive in securing a highly valuable competitive victory.
After the first Taroña basket, initial success was elusive and the Galician team took advantage of it, making it 7-0 and forcing Rubén Burgos to stop the match. There was an immediate reaction from the perimeter, and he changed the pace of the game with three consecutive triples and energized the Valencia basket.
This offensive momentum allowed the visiting team an 0-8 run and opened up the first significant lead on the scoreboard. The first quarter ended in Taronja’s favor, although Encino used offensive rebounds to provide oxygen and close the gap.
The lead reached 17 points, but Encino was able to reduce the lead before intermission. At halftime, Valencia Basket was clearly in the lead both on the scoreboard and emotionally (32-45).
Even after the restart, they maintained a high scoring pace. Valencia Basket once again increased the lead to 20 points, but then a local reaction occurred. Led in part by the Galicians’ offensive push and Buenavida’s pointed technique, they reduced the visitors’ advantage.
Despite Talonja’s attempts to stabilize the game, Encino’s push was constant and the third quarter ended with the lead narrowed to 10 points, leaving the game open for a final twist.
The final period began with an exchange of baskets, with Valencia Basket once again gaining the advantage, with Valencia Basket once again taking a comfortable lead. However, Lugo’s team didn’t let up and took advantage of Talonja’s offensive blocks to go on a 9-0 run and bring the excitement back into the game. In that scenario, Anderson appeared with a key basket and after a local reaction, Our Fam supported the team in a crucial moment.
