Let’s bow our heads. Coach of Kyiv-Basket and Budivelnik died near Rabotin
Every day at 9 am, Ukrainians commemorate the people who lost their lives in the Russia-Ukraine war. Today Sport.ua commemorates the former basketball player and physical education coach of the capital “Kiev-Basket” and “Budivelnik” teams, as well as the Ukrainian youth national teams, Dmitry Markhovsky, who died in the battles for Ukraine two years ago in January 2024. For a long time Dmitry was thought to be missing, but eventually information about his death was confirmed. The warrior was 30 years old.
Dmitry Markhovsky was born and raised in Kiev and has been doing what he loves since his youth; He plays basketball and coaches basketball players professionally. Dmitry was the physical education coach of the capital’s leading teams Budivelnik and Kyiv-Basket.
In the summer of 2023, she trained with Ukrainian women’s teams in continental competitions, and at the end of September she joined the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
At the front, Dmitry was a combat medic who saved the lives of his comrades-in-arms. His last words, as told by eyewitnesses of that battle near Robotin, Pologovsky district of Zaporozhye, were the following phrase: “Everything is fine with me, I can continue to provide assistance.”
For a long time the warrior was considered missing, so there was at least some hope that Dmitry would survive or be captured. However, at the end of August 2024, the sad news of his death was confirmed.
Announcing Dmitry’s death, his father, Oleg Markhovsky, wrote insightful words: “My son, you lived your life with dignity. Now you are my heavenly guardian. I miss you, miss you and am proud of you at the same time. Blessed memory to you – Son, Warrior, Aries!”
