The surprise for the rest was the position of ASVEL, which many in the Euroleague thought could leave the tournament. The French stated that they do not plan to leave the league. While the Lyon team opposed the idea of ​​excluding the club from the Euroleague’s long-term plans, they continued to explore various options for their future. At the same time, ASVEL did not commit to staying in the Euroleague at the meeting.

Euroleague has set the deadline for signing new licenses as January 15. Clubs that do not confirm their participation by this date may face different shareholder conditions, incentives or cooperation formats if they decide to participate after the deadline.

Two more clubs that did not renew their agreements, Fenerbahce and Real Madrid, showed a neutral attitude regarding their long-term future in the Euroleague.

The Turkish club asked for more time to decide as it considered various options, including a possible 5+5-year licence.

Real Madrid has not yet made a final decision and is awaiting further clarity on its NBA bid and the wider NBA Europe project.

Additional details, including more information about the project’s financial and structural model, may emerge during the upcoming NBA games between the Memphis Grizzlies and Orlando Magic in Berlin and London on January 15 in Berlin and January 18 in London.

Currently, 10 of the Euroleague’s 13 shareholders have confirmed verbally or officially that they are ready to sign new 10-year licenses. F.Bahçe, Real Madrid and ASVEL are undecided and have not yet given their approval.
