PSG, one of Adam Silver’s favorite clubs to enter NBA Europe
As the Orlando Magic and Memphis Grizzlies tour Europe, ending this Sunday at the O2 Arena in London, the NBA will continue to host one of its short-term projects, NBA Europe.
League commissioner Adam Silver has already spoken to the media at a pre-game press conference in Berlin, where he also addressed other issues such as financing, as well as confirming to the MD that he had held discussions “with Real Madrid and other Spanish teams” regarding the project, but this Saturday in London, the NBA’s top leader revealed further details about what lies ahead in a roundtable with various media outlets.
According to French outlet L’Equipe, Silver has left the name of Paris Saint-Germain on the table as one of the potential members of the NBA Europe project currently in development.
According to information provided by French media, the league commissioner is considering PSG as an option, but affirmed at the meeting that PSG is above all an important market to join the new competition, as the Parisian team “plays at the highest level (in soccer) and has sufficient and necessary experience to run a basketball club at the highest level if there is interest.” “Yes, we are in talks with the club,” he revealed.
Not only did Silver mention Paris Saint-Germain as a possible option to become one of the NBA’s European franchises, but his right-hand man, Mark Tatum, also acknowledged that “Paris is definitely a market we want to be in,” and insisted that merging with Jordan Brand is important from a marketing standpoint. “They have the ability to create a brand, a culture and that association.” [con Jordan] It has something to do with basketball,” he said this Saturday.
