‘Leave Greenland alone!’: London’s cry to welcome NBA
It’s never been a good time for the NBA to play games in Europe. Tensions between the US and Europe due to President Donald Trump’s growing threat to Greenland, a Danish territory that the US president wants to annex, were clearly reflected in this Sunday’s game between the Memphis Grizzlies and the Orlando Magic at the O2 Pavilion in London.
The episode occurred as actress Vanessa Williams was singing the famous American national anthem, “The Star-Spangled Banner,” when a loud voice suddenly sounded from the stands saying, “Leave Greenland alone.” The majority of fans present in the London Pavilion reacted to this spontaneous appearance with loud applause.
