Greiner’s team has filed an appeal against the verdict in the drug smuggling case.

The defense team of 31-year-old American basketball player Brittney Griner filed an appeal against the verdict of the Khimki City Court, lawyer Maria Blagovolina told reporters.
On August 4, Greiner was sentenced in Russia to 9 years in a general regime prison in a drug smuggling case and fined 1 million rubles.
Greiner was detained on suspicion of trying to illegally import hash oil through Sheremetyevo Airport in February, and a criminal case was opened on drug smuggling.
Greiner has been playing for the UMMC from Yekaterinburg since 2015, she twice won the Olympics as part of the US team (2016, 2020).
