The children’s national team has an appointment with the qualification for the quarterfinals of the Eurobasket U16
The children’s national team claims its qualification for the quarter-finals of the U16 European Championship, which will be held in Skopje on Tuesday afternoon (16 August, 7:45 p.m., FIBA - The Basketball Channel).
The sweep of the children’s national team in the first phase Basket EM U16 will of course have a sequel.
After the impressive performances and the 3/3 in the 4th group, Vangelis Ziagou’s team meets Latvia in the first knockout game of the competition tonight (16/8, 7:45 p.m., FIBA - The Basketball Channel). and enters as a big favorite in the battle with qualifying for the Eight as the main goal.
Greece’s rivals ended the first period without a win and considering what has happened so far, there will hardly be any danger on the court. She struggled against Turkey and Italy in two of the three games, but with 34% attacking accuracy and 23 errors per game, she seems unable to become the obstacle that will slow down the impressive Paides.
If the national team advances to the quarter-finals, they will meet the winner of the match between Serbia and Israel. Orlovi are theoretically the favourites, but at this age the forecasts are uncertain.

Jelevich: “Sekulic missed training for the season. This could have a negative impact on his work at Zenit
Work in the Slovenian national team could have a negative impact on Alexander Sekulic’s results at Zenit, Honored Coach of Russia Sergei Yelevich told Match TV.
On Tuesday, Sekulic was suspended from his duties as head coach of Zenit. The team’s preparation for the match of the 22nd round of the regular season of the VTB United League against MBA-MAI will take place under the leadership of Maxim Uchaikin, who will temporarily serve as head coach, Zenit said in a statement.
– During the entire time that he was at Zenit, I did not see anything new and interesting in his activities. Maybe his assistants do not give him the opportunity to open up, although Sekulic is certainly a talented coach. It’s not for nothing that the Slovenian national team trusts him. But he missed a fairly large stage of preparation for the season due to work in the national team. It was necessary to prepare the team, but he was not there. This may have had a negative impact in the future.
Plus, sometimes it’s not so easy to find contact with players. You need to select a specific key for them. They are accomplished players and know their worth. Probably, the key could not be found. So all these points could have had an impact,” Elevich told Match TV.
Sekulic took charge of Zenit in June; the contract with the 47-year-old Slovenian specialist is for the 2025/26 season with the possibility of extension under the “1+1” scheme. Sekulic is also the head coach of the Slovenian national team.
