EEC: minute of silence in memory of Alkis Kampanos

A minute’s silence in the matches of all national and local championships from Friday 4th to Wednesday 9th February was announced by the EEC in memory of Alkis Kampanos who was killed in Thessaloniki.

The relevant announcement states:

“The Hellenic Basketball Federation decided in all matches of the national and local championships scheduled from Friday 4.2. until Wednesday, February 9th.

The loss of a human life is a tragic event in itself. When it comes to the murder of a juvenile and the perpetrator has fanatical motives, words fail to describe the pain caused.

The sport represents a completely different morality. Unfortunately, as time has shown, wish lists do not help to eliminate the absurdity of violence in the name of sport. May the ground that covered Alkis be light, may his memory always be alive, and may the end of this absurdity ever prove possible“.

We remind you that ESAKE has also decided to observe a minute’s silence in two postponed matches (Larissa – Panathinaikos OPAP & Aris – Olympiakos) while the last words of the murdered young man are displayed on the electronic signs: “Please don’t “. Also the athletes of the teams will bring sadness to their jersey.
