Peristeri – Bnei Herzeliya 86-70: Glorious and impressive in Vassilis Spanoulis’ official debut on the bench
Vassilis Spanoulis’ official debut on the bench came as Peristeri easily defeated Bnei Herzeliya 86-70 at home for Group H of the Basketball Champions League.
Vassilis Spanoulis’ Peristeri had an ideal start to their commitments in the Basketball Champions League groups. In Kill Bill’s first official game as coach of the men’s team, Peristeri defeated Israel’s Bnei Herzeliya 86-70 for Group H of the tournament.
The home team exuded energy on the ground, with their defense causing many problems for the opposition, taking them out of attack. Vassilis Spanoulis has shown from the start how he wants his players to compete, which showed on the floor, with Peristeri starting his European course ideally.
The race
Vassilis Spanoulis started his first official match with Denmon, Bilan, Poulianitis, Davis and Kaselakis. After an initial 5-5 in the opening minutes, Peristeri put on an 8-0 run to take a 13-5 lead, forcing the Israel team to time out. Peristeri’s defense forced errors from Bnei Herzeliya, who failed to launch an attack on several occasions.
Peristeri managed to keep an almost double-digit difference thanks to his excellent cooperation and the pressing defence, especially Moraitis, who scored in the 15th minute with a three to make it 41:27. Spanoulis largely saw his players what he wanted to see on the pitch. The hosts escaped in the 19th minute and even fell behind to 19 points, with the score at the end of the first half being 51:36.
And in the second half, Peristeri’s energy stayed at the same high level. The perimeter shot kept the difference at a great level, over 20 points. Bnei made mistakes mostly because of the hosts’ stifling defense, which was also the main feature in the third period.
The gap narrowed slightly in the final third as the home side had already laid the foundations for victory and Spanoulis had little left to fix on the floor. The pace slowed towards the finale, Peristeri took the win and got off to an ideal start in his duties in Europe.
