FIBA Champions League
February’s MVP in the BCL is AEK’s Akil Mitchell
AEK’s Akil Mitchell was named the Basketball Champions League’s Most Valuable Player in February.
After Sasha Vezenkov, who was named EuroLeague MVP in February, came another award for a player from a Greek team in a European competition. In fact, AEK’s Akil Mitchell won the Most Valuable Player of the Month award in the Basketball Champions League.
The Queen’s 30-year-old center averaged 20 points and 11 rebounds against Galatasaray and Limoges and overall he has hit in double digits in all BCL games this year, averaging 17.4 points and 9.5 rebounds per game, numbers, who were also nominated for the MVP of the season in the event.
“An individual award is nice. It shows, that People see and respect what you’ve done, the work you’ve done. But it sure doesn’t mean everything. I know some great players who have never won individual awards and who also deserve a lot of respect. It’s a great honor, but it’s not the most important thing for me.
While winning the MVP season would be pretty cool, obviously winning the BCL will feel 100x better. Winning a championship is one of those things that is very difficult to achieve and that feeling is second to none. Some of my best memories come from college and winning championships. It’s something I’m chasing and something I want, but… winning MVP of the season would also be a great honor.”Mitchell told the official BCL website.
