AEK Official Request for Basketball Champions League Final Four
AEK has submitted an application to FIBA to officially bid for the Basketball Champions League Final Four.
AEK wants to host the Final Four of the Basketball Champions League. This news has been known for a few days, but now the interest has taken an official form as the “Union” has submitted its candidacy to FIBA within the set deadlines.
AEK has organized and has the know-how for both the 2018 Final Four (which it won) and the 2020 Final Eight (whether or not it ended up being played behind closed doors due to the coronavirus) with great success events. The difference, of course, is that it now wants to host the event in its new home, the gated area of Ano Liosia, while the previous two events were held in OAKA.
Given, of course, the “Union’s” experience from such events, but also that the Lios indoor stadium now has the specifications to host big games (something that happens both in the men’s national team games in the “windows” of FIBA , as well as in the recent game against Galatasaray for the BCL), AEK hopes these two main arguments will give them the opportunity to host a major event again.
It is worth remembering that AEK has already qualified for the quarterfinals of the competition and will claim first place in their group before the playoffs on the final day of play.
