Peristeri goes to the Eurocup to… play
Peristeri is ready to move from the BCL to the Eurocup. The decision has been made and has competition law reasons.
In Peristeri, the decision for the team’s participation in the new season’s Eurocup was almost made, replacing Prometheus from Patras, who represented Greece in the competition in recent years. The reasons leading the Peristerians to the second EuroLeague tournament are more competitive and based on their experience from this year’s Basketball Champions League.
In the BCL Peristeri played 9 European games this year. Six in the regular-season group in a very spread out three-month period (October 3 to December 20) and another three in play-in for the ’16’ stage when they were eliminated by Dijon.
12 games in total, in the … defeat and in the fexi, where the lack of rhythm and adaptation was evident. On the contrary, if it took part in the Eurocup, it would be guaranteed 18 games since last year’s system called for a regular season in two groups of 10 (i.e. eighteen games for each team). In fact, by December he would have completed all nine games he has played in total in the BCL.
It goes without saying that teams, for financial reasons (television, tickets), request as many games as possible, which currently only affects the Eurocup.
The concrete noticeable difference in the formula of the two competitions, combined with the fact that the Eurocup is also the only way out for a team to play in the Euroleague, convinced the residents of Peristeri to leave the BCL with Vassilis’ approval Spanoulis.
The final decisions will be made after the end of the small final against PAOK (Peristeri leads 1-0, the second game will be played in Thessaloniki on Wednesday) as the dates for declaring participation in the new season’s European Cups expire in June.
