Israeli teams are considering playing their European home games in Athens, Nicosia and Belgrade
According to a number of publications in Israel, due to the situation in Palestine, teams with European commitments are preparing to play their home games outside the country, considering the cases of Athens, Nicosia and Belgrade.
The war conflicts between Israel and Palestine have also drastically changed the situation in the sports sector. A game between Israeli teams in Europe has already been postponed as Maccabi Tel Aviv and Hapoel Jerusalem have since conceded a game. All of this has now brought another thought to the table: that Israeli teams play their European home games against other countries.
According to a report by Israel Hayom, which was also reproduced by other Israeli media, Israel’s teams are considering playing their home games in Europe in either Athens, Nicosia or Belgrade. In fact, the association intends to create a “bubble” in Cyprus – where Maccabi Tel Aviv trains – which will form the basis for teams with European commitments, such as Hapoel Jerusalem (many of which have players in Greece), Hapoel Holon and Hapoel Tel Aviv.
However, it is clear that important security issues arise for both the teams and the cities that may be invited to host these games, and cooperation from each association with the Israeli partner is required to find a solution. Be that as it may, it must be assumed that there will be developments soon.
As a reminder, Partizan has already invited Maccabi Tel Aviv to its home games in Belgrade.
