Gran Canaria made an early splash in the Liga Endesa championship when they beat Barcelona 88-85 in their opening game.

With excellent performances at both ends of the pitch and pressure from opponents in the final, Gran Canaria caused an upset early in the Endesa league, beating Barcelona 88-85 in the Spanish league opener.

As they did in the SuperCopa against Real Madrid, Barcelona showed their weaknesses on the opening day of the league, giving the island side the right to find a rhythm and create an upset.

Gran Canaria led until the middle of the third period, losing it for a few minutes but then regaining the lead to finish the third quarter +5 (70-65). Abrines and Sanli were the ones who aggressively carried Barcelona but finding a rhythm was slow.

A brace from Laprovitola put Barcelona back in front 3’30” from the end of the game, although Gran Canaria still seemed able to cause an upset. The score changes a lot until the final, with Barcelona staying within a point. A trio by the hosts brought the difference to four (86:82) and practically sealed the win.
