According to a report by Corriere della Sera, Sergio Scariolo is the main candidate to take over as Real Madrid’s technical manager from the new season. At the same time, the Spanish media confirm the pressure Chu’s Mateo is under after losing the Copa del Rey.

Real Madrid’s disappointing elimination in the Copa del Reay semi-finals at the hands of (then) Copa del Rey Malaga opened a new round of discussions about Chu’s Mateo’s future on the ‘Queen’s’ bench. At the same time, something similar appears to be happening with Sergio Scariolo at Virtus Bologna after Virtus’ shock cup loss.

According to an Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera, Scariolo is on his way back to Madrid and is seen as a prime candidate to take over as technical manager at Real from next summer. The Italian coach, who linked his name with the Spanish national team, was on the Real bench in the three years 1999-2002 and won a league against Barcelona.

There is, of course, a practical issue in completing such a deal, as Scariolo is signed at Virtus until 2024, although according to the Italian release, the golden ratio may be found. The agreement between the Italians and the Spanish association runs until 2024, more precisely until the end of the Olympic Games in Paris.
