That’s the only way Sarunas Jasikevicius stays in Barcelona

AS have announced the terms that will keep Sarunas Jasikevicius on the Barcelona bench for another season.

Barcelona’s elimination by Unicaja Malaga in the Copa del Rey quarter-finals brought Sarunas Jasikevicius up front – once again – and brought the debate over his future at the club back to the fore.

As AS reveal in their publication, the Lithuanian technician’s contract with Blaugrana, which expires next summer, includes an automatic renewal clause. How is this activated? If Barca win the EuroLeague trophy in the Final Four to be played in Kaunas (May 19-21). But even if the Spaniards take over second-tier side Anadolu Efes, Saras still has the option to reject his contract extension and walk away with his head held high.

If the coveted goal of lifting the prestigious trophy is not achieved, it is almost certain that the two sides will not engage in renewal talks, while some names of possible substitutes are already being heard in Spain. The reason for Xavi Pascual, who is also the last coach to win the EuroLeague with Barcelona in 2010, but also for Jaka Lakovic, a former player of the team (2006-11) and current Gran Canaria coach.
