Chus Mateo didn’t take the slightest risk in Sunday’s league game against Malaga three days before Game 5 against Partizan, which gives a seat in the EuroLeague Final Four.

Real Madrid had not one, not two, but seven absences in the home game against Malaga on matchday 31 in the Endesa league.

With the crucial game against Partizan coming up on Wednesday (10/5), which will decide Blancos’ future in the EuroLeague, Chus Mateo didn’t risk losing another player after Gabi Dek and made a dozen with stopgap measures.

In other words, he left out Tavares, Rudy, Rodriguez, Hanga, Hezonia as well as the still-caught Poirier (who is doubtful). For this reason, both Ambalde, alongside Williams-Goss and Kozer, and 18-year-old Eli Ediage as the main center were in the starting blocks, completing the front line with Yabusele.

The French forward, who is suspended for the events of Game 2 with the Belgrade side, is unavailable in Europe but will play normally in Spain.

Real’s mission was completed by Randolph, Corneli, Yule, Moussa, 16-year-old Ismaila Dianne, 17-year-old Hugo Gondaleth and his Russian Egor Demin.
