Jasikevicius: “I don’t care if I have a contract or not, I want to win the championship”
Sarunas Jasikevicius, who is currently only interested in winning the Spanish league with Barcelona, tries to keep the outside noise at bay.
Reports of Barcelona’s big budget cut, contract expiration, Nikola Mirotic’s potential early exit and just about everything that’s been heard about the Spanish club lately put Sarunas Jasikevicius on the back burner. And that’s because the Lithuanian manager only thinks about winning the Liga Endesa Cup.
“I think we have to deal with this situation smartly and professionally. Yes, I can talk to my players. Have I spoken to you about this lately? No. I think that every year there will be situations like the contract, but this should happen so as not to take away our desire to win the championship.
We haven’t won many championships, many cups or many EuroLeagues. In some cases you win a title every year. I don’t care if I have a contract or not, I really want to win this championship. That’s all that’s left for this year. I’ll check it out later in the summer when I’m with my friends over a glass of wine or something. But now we can get a trophy. How to improve your CV.
I don’t know what’s going on, but there’s a lot of noise. As a Barcelona player or coach, you have to know how to deal with that noise. We can talk but each of us has to be ambitious and assert ourselves because at the end of the day we play to win. I don’t care about anything other than winning‘ explained Jasikevicius after Barca’s first play-off win against Valencia.
