Barcelona have three days to opt out of Mirotic’s contract
Barcelona have until July 1 to pull out of Nikola Mirotic’s difficult contract. What happens if the two sides don’t reach an agreement within the next three days?
Time is of the essence and it’s not on Barcelona’s side. The Blaugrana have unilaterally decided to end their partnership with Nikola Mirotic early in order to ditch the Montenegrin forward’s huge contract while they try to streamline their budget, but he shows no inclination whatsoever to leave unless he gets the one entire amount due to him by 2025, i.e. 22 million euros!
As Donatas Urbonas reports in BasketNews, the two sides have to agree on the player’s release within the next 72 hours, i.e. by July 1st. Otherwise, Mirotic’s contract will usually count against Barcelona’s budget for the 2023/24 season, which will complicate the football department’s moves. At the same time, according to the same report, the tax for the Catalan club will be even higher if the two sides part ways after July 1, which they certainly don’t want at the club.
