Valencia scored 61 points but won, Rogavopoulos failed to score in Baskonia’s double
With difficult away wins over Breogan and Zaragoza, Valencia and Baskonia continued their rise in the Spanish league.
Valencia isn’t the deepest, most talented or balanced squad in the EuroLeague and looks clearly strained early in the season (like many other teams), but on Sunday they beat Breogan (61-59) on the road in a game that ended on a low note score and was judged on the details in front of 5090 spectators.
Chris Jones with 17 points in 22:38 and Brandon Davis with a double-double (11 points – 10 rebounds) were the two who stood out for Alex Moubrew’s team, with Breogan relying on Yogela (14 points in 23:27) – Fernandez supported (13 points – 8 rebounds), but they finished the forty minutes with 4/19 three-pointers.
Baskonia also scored a brace, in the home game of Zaragoza (85-80), with Nikos Rogavopoulos not scoring in 12:18 (0/1 two-pointers, 0/2 three-pointers), but Vanja Marinkovic (21 points, 2/1). 4 two-pointers, 5/9 3-pointers, 2/2 shots) and Cody Miller-McIntyre (16 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists) for the job over Mark Smith (22 points, 5 rebounds) and Jahlil Okafor (14 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals, 2 blocks).
