Hines with Guduric on stage: “I accept defeat, but not disrespect”
In a Twitter post, Kyle Hines explained the reasons why he went in pursuit of Marko Guduric after Armani’s loss to Fenerbahce, saying that the Serb insulted Ettore Messina just before the end of the game.
Kyle Hines shocked the basketball world when he started pushing and after the end of Armani’s match against Fenerbahce (Turks won 60-71), he went in pursuit of Marko Guduric as he is not used to such behavior. A few hours later, he explained the reason for his behavior in a lengthy Twitter post and told his own side of the story.
The American center states that the reason for this unprecedented outburst was that Guduric said some things to Ettore Messina after the game that weren’t right and showed disrespect towards the Italian coach and Armani. He even stressed that while he always accepts defeat, he cannot accept disrespect.
Kyle Hines wrote extensively:
“To all the Fenerbahce friends who send me messages and comments: Basketball is a game and I can accept defeat and an opponent who plays better than me. But what I will not accept is intentionally showing disrespect to my teammates and coaches.
Guduric is a great player and a very good game. However, what he said to our coach at the end of the game was unnecessary and I made it clear to him that I would not leave it at that. My behavior may not be viewed as right, but I am a man of respect and will always defend my own people if I feel someone is disrespecting them.
When we were in Istanbul earlier in the season and won by a big margin, none of our team showed any disrespect during the game. We played our game and left it there.
A defeat is a defeat. A fight is a fight. But I don’t let disrespect get away with it.
Enjoy the rest of the Euroleague season.”
