Ponitka: “The situation is a bit crazy for me but it was an easy decision to come to Panathinaikos”

Speaking in front of the ERT camera in his capacity as Panathinaikos player, Mateus Ponitka explained how he has been living the last few days where his career has had ups and downs.

On Saturday night, September 24th, Mateus Ponitka joined OAKA for the first time as a Panathinaikos athlete. For example, the 29-year-old regional division club spoke to the ERT camera after the friendly with Armani Milan and explained how things had developed over the past few days, after which he put aside the trip to Italy to eventually join the Greens on behalf of Greece .

In detail what he said about the ERT camera:

I would like to thank you for the warm welcome, it was very nice. If we only talk about the game, we will say that in the third quarter it was good for us, as the coach said. The fourth period made the difference, Armani Milano used their quality and experience. We were a bit passive in the fourth quarter. We have to learn from every game, we have to work hard. It’s difficult to be into tactics because I don’t have a picture of the team. What I like is that everyone is fighting, we’ve seen guys bounce on the floor after a possession even though it’s pre-season. With that kind of mindset and approach, we can hunt things down in the season.

It was an easy decision when Panathinaikos asked me. With the story here, the fans. I am honored to be part of the club. OK, the situation was a bit crazy for me because I packed my bags to go to Reggio Emilia. My agent called me and said he wanted me so we had to find a way to make it happen. I want to say a big thank you to Rezzo Emilia because they were absolute professionals throughout the process, but it helped that Panathinaikos was also very direct and honest.

I will try to help win games as much as possible. I know it’s all about winning. When we win and do well, everyone is happy, everyone on the team. I’ll see where I can help the most, I’ll go day by day, exercise by exercise. The season is very long, we have a lot of games ahead of us. We will see how the puzzle is completed“.

Panathinaikos – Armani Milano 64-77: Had strength and good percentages for three seasons

Lack of energy in the second half and failure from the touchline resulted in Panathinaikos losing to Armani Milano (77-64) in the final of “Pavlos Giannakopoulos”. Training with Marius Grigonis and Mateus Ponitka starting immediately.

Unlike in the friendly against Anadolu Efes, Panathinaikos wasn’t as effective in attack against Armani Milano. And that made all the difference in the end. Ettore Messina’s team beat Dejan Radonic’s team (77-64) in the OAKA to win the title in the fourth edition of the Pavlos Giannakopoulos.

The Greens have learned many lessons over the past two days (especially in the final of the friendly tournament) as it is a team with many new faces, but they know that in a week’s time they will win the first trophy of the season – that of the Supercup in Rhodes.

Of course, one is waiting for both Marius Grigonis and Mateus Ponitka (he was with OAKA) to be included in the training sessions and then in the rotation to significantly expand Dejan Radonić’s possibilities.

Also, during the half-time break, KAE Panathinaikos honored the firefighters for the self-sacrifice and self-denial they show in carrying out their duties to protect the life and property of citizens and the environment. In this regard, the President of KAE Panathinaikos, Vassilis Parthenopoulos, presented a commemorative plaque to the Chief of the Fire Brigade, Lt. Gen. Alexios Rapanos.

The race

Panathinaikos tried to control the pace in the opening minutes, with Nate Walters playing a dominant role. However, despite the many absences, Armani Milano has been more consistent on both sides of the floor. The guests took a slight lead in the first few minutes (12:15 in the 8th minute), but by the end of the first period they had wings, Arturas Gudaitis almost breathed his last breath to give the Greens the lead (20:00). 18 at 10′).

Dejan Radonić restricted rotation compared to the first friendly at ‘Pavlos Giannakopoulos’ (an example he now wanted to better prepare for the Super Cup), with the derby continuing and the low pace being the rule of the friendly.

The good last two minutes were enough for the Reds to put them in the lead at the break by a good margin (33:40 at 20′), Ettore Messina seeing Tommaso Baldasso deliver much more than usual (8 points).

In the second half, the pace of the game slowed down significantly, with the players of the teams expending more energy in defense than in attack. This affected the quality of the friendly, with Armani Milano still maintaining the lead. Even if it’s small.

With Billy Barron now in action, the visitors were at +6 (45-51 at 27′) and widening the gap a bit early in the fourth period. +10 (53-63 at 32′) was the best Ettore Messina’s team had shown so far, while Dejan Radonic – through successive changes – tried to find viable form to chase the excitement.

But as long as the rim shots landed on the irons, it was impossible for Panathinaikos to collect or reverse the Italian lead. On the contrary, Armani Milano was much more substantial (mainly near the basket) and kept the safe distance to easily go to victory – a title for “Pavlos Giannakopoulos”.

THE DECADES: 20-18, 33-40, 53-58, 64-77.

Bartzokas: “We’re starting from a higher base than last year”

Published

Giorgos Bartzokas kept a low profile against Red Star despite Olympiakos’ +39, while also discussing the selflessness of his players.

Olympiacos gave Cyprus’ “Neophytos Handriotis” two excellent examples of writing against Hapoel Holon and Erythro Astera, showing an enviable readiness given the moment we find ourselves in. In spite of the +39 over the Serbian team However, Giorgos Bartzokas remained (very) quiet, stating that there was still more room for improvement.

What he said in detail to COSMOTE TV:

On the readiness level of Olympiakos: “Obviously there is room for improvement. We’re early. The fact that some international players have returned has slowed us down a bit until they get into the rhythm of the others and some of the new things we’ve introduced. Overall we’re happy, I think we have a core from last year and at a certain level we can play well because of that fact“.

For the many free shots Olympiacos found in the two friendlies with Hapoel Holon and Erythro Astera: “It’s always what the opponent gives you. Yesterday Hapoel Holon played a zone with adjustments, they left all shots open for us. First of all, we have creativity and a lot of open shots, mainly because of the unselfish mindset of our players. They want to pass the ball to the free teammate. This is important. I think you also know that we have several good shooters and that we are waiting for Kostas Slukas. In general, I think that we will assume a higher base than last year“.

Regarding the presence of Olympiakos in “Neophytos Handriotis”: “As many times as I have come here, with both Olympiakos and Khimki, the level of organization is amazing. Second, the reason for commemorating Neophytos… I met his family, they are amazing. The loss of your child touches us all deeply. Apart from playing good games here, we have many friends here, it is important for us to honor the child’s memory“.
