Anadolu Efes – Maccabi Tel Aviv 87-81: In one quarter he went all out and got the win
Anadolu Efes capitalized on his poor second quarter (scored 38 points) and clinched the win over Maccabi Tel Aviv (87-81) for the second day of “Pavlos Giannakopoulos” in OAKA.
Maccabi Tel Aviv have made several impressive signings in the off-season but they will need time to reach Anadolu Efes’ level of willingness and homogeneity. Something was proved in the friendly match between the two teams for “Pavlos Giannakopoulos” in OAKA. It took the European champions fifteen minutes to regain full control, take the lead and never look back, with Vasilije Micic doing his thing with a friendly win (87-81).
And the Oded Katas team? In the absence of Lorenzo Brown, he couldn’t function well on the creative side either
The race
The first quarter seemed like the game was going to be quite interesting, with lead changes and competition. Maccabi Tel Aviv’s +1 (20:21) lead at the end of the first period faded very quickly after a sustained counterattack by Anadolu Efes. With Vasilije Micic (15 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists in 12’18”) doing his thing and giving Egehan Arna 11 points on 3/3 shooting and 3/3 shooting off the bench, the European champion hit the gas and came with some of it.
How much; At +22 (58-36) at the end of the first half with 11/17 two-pointers, 7/16 three-pointers, 15/18 shots and 8 assists. As for Maccabi Tel Aviv? The 4/13 three-pointer and the lost battle of rebounds (13 against 20) were the factors that led to the failure of the second period.
The Maccabi Tel Aviv side’s reaction came in the third quarter but didn’t last long. Yes, Oded Katas team conceded the difference, mostly thanks to the action of their big players, but there wasn’t much more they could do. Vasilije Micic got back into action (organisationally and administratively), helping Anadolu Efes return to a safe level and thus sealing the friendly win for Ergin Ataman’s side.
