Clyburn: “I had practically renewed at CSKA before all this happened”
Will Clyburn wasn’t ready to leave CSKA for another EuroLeague team, but the incursion of Russian troops into Ukraine turned all his plans upside down.
Since the summer or Will Clyburn belongs to the Anatolian Efes. The reigning European champion has the same ambitions before the start of the new EuroLeague season. Everyone would want to play there.
The 32-year-old American striker (2.01) does not hide the fact that he is enjoying his first few weeks in the city. Where he lived while playing for Daroussafaka (2016-17). He had no intention of returning anyway. Nor to leave Moscow and CSKA, with whom he had agreed to extend his contract.
As he revealed to Basketnews: “I was at CSKA for five years and I intended to continue. I practically agreed to renew my contract before all of this happened. Saying goodbye wasn’t easy for me, but at least I’m happy about the chance“.
The 2019 Final Four MVP had set his life up in such a way that he had to change it after the Kremlin’s decision for military intervention in the Ukrainian territories. “To be honest everything looks bad from the outside. But while I was there I never felt uncomfortable, I never felt different because I was there. The organization remained professional, I enjoyed the city and everything was normal“.
But nothing is prescribed here and everything that is taken for granted becomes a meteor. Clyburn had stated that “Russia is my homeland now. My son has lived in Russia longer than in the US, and I’ve made connections with those here“. Unfortunately, this house was abruptly uprooted by him.
