Sarounas Jasikevicsous was asked about the phrase Nick Calathes recently used about freedom on the floor to answer without… answering.

A few days ago, Nick Calathes gave his first major interview as a Fenerbahce player. Where he gave the reasons why he prefers the Turkish club but also the differences between Dimitris Itoudis and Sarounas Jasikevicius.

Back then, he threw his ‘Spoda’ for his former coach (and also his teammates in Panathinaikos) as he said that “As a point guard you want freedom. Especially now that I’m not 20 and I know how to play. Sarah’s system was harder and more absolute, she was in control. Itoudis gives his players freedom. He trusts you and believes in what you will do. It gives you the freedom to take control of the game“.

On the eve of the game against Olympiakos, to mark the start of the regular season, Sarounas Jasikevicius was, among other things, asked to comment on his former player’s words. His answer? “We live in a democracy that allows us to say what we want“.

And when asked to elaborate, he avoided it and focused on the appointment with Giorgos Bartzokas’ team: “I’d rather start the regular season with a weaker team than Olympiakos, who represent the Final Four. The coach and most of the players stayed together, it’s a team that plays with heart“.
