In an announcement ahead of the EuroLeague meeting with the 18 teams, the players’ union stressed that their main concern was the safety of players, coaches, referees and staff.

The EuroLeague Players’ Association (ELPA) said in a statement that their priority is the safety of players, coaches, referees and staff. The state of war in Ukraine with the Russian invasion has also created many problems in the sport, with ELPA putting everyone’s safety above all else and trusting the decisions made at the meeting.

“In light of the unprecedented events in Ukraine and the upcoming Euroleague team conference call, we would like to emphasize that any decision to continue the tournament should have the safety of players, coaches, team members and referees as a top priority.

We understand the complexity of the situation but are confident that the right decisions will be made. “We continue to offer our full support to players, individually and collectively, as this situation evolves over the coming hours, days and weeks.”
